Weill Cornell Medicine

Communications Specialist

New York, New York | March 2013 – Present

My career took a bit of a [welcomed] shift when I relocated to the Northeast and began working for Weill Cornell Medicine’s Information Technologies & Services (ITS) department. As the department’s first communications specialist, I was tasked with building a communications plan from the ground up to improve relations between ITS and the various doctors, staff, and students that comprise the WCM community. This included templates, marketing, event planning, and even taking on a training role.

Tech Tuesdays

To educate doctors, faculty, and students with little time on their hands, I proposed a weekly event called “Tech Tuesdays,” which are half-hour demonstrations on different IT and library applications used on campus. Awareness and attendance have grown since its inception in 2015, with our most popular series on Adobe Creative Cloud being a huge draw.

  • RESULTS: We had over 1,400 attendees in 2020, averaging more than 33 people per session.

SMARTFest

The annual SMARTFest is ITS’ largest event, bringing faculty, staff, and students together to learn about various tools and services available at the college. This is done in a trade show-style format, with attendees visiting vendor booths focused on a particular service. I’ve handled the promotion of all five SMARTFests using a collection of email campaigns, print and digital signage, video commercials, and other channels.

  • RESULTS: We went from a few hundred attendees to over 1,100 in five years. The increase in attendance has also attracted more vendors in recent years, like Dell, McGraw-Hill Education, and others.

TipUp

TipUp is a bi-monthly video series created in 2020 that features a helpful technology tip in about two minutes. The fun animation style makes the tech featured in each video more approachable, while also promoting the use of our applications and services.

  • RESULTS: In our first full year of TipUp, we had over 4,200 views, with average watch times and view duration increasing as more users became aware of the series.
